Filippo Marcolongo and Paolo Zerman are architects working across multiple disciplines.
MonarchiStudio is a studio-brand where ideas and projects in the fields of Architecture and Design take shape.
An in-depth and diverse design research process leads to the handcrafted creation of structures,
furnishings, objects and lighting fixtures that engage with the visual, tactile and metaphysical perception
of the human being, the universal recipient of the work itself.
The defining characteristic of each project lies in the ambiguous tension between minimalism
and the pure expression of material, explored through the juxtaposition of contrasting elements.
The result is a clean, elegant approach to design, born from concepts conceived but never written down,
perhaps drawn, and ultimately brought to life through rudimentary tools,
kept amid the clutter of the garage-workshop where the two architects find their inspiration.
Their works are primarily the outcome of reasoned chance: a natural,
curious pursuit of the new that emerges from the seemingly stereotypical routines of everyday life.
Light and matter meet, giving rise to objects with varying luminous intensities,
conceived for the diverse occasions of domestic life.
These qualities emphasise the physical presence of each object within its surroundings,
allowing it to acquire a sculptural character.
The clarity and simultaneous naturalness of their forms allow the objects to adapt seamlessly
to their surroundings, either reinforcing the existing spatial perception or deliberately transforming it.
From the outset, the two architects pursue a fundamental objective: the interaction between object and individual,
and the search for an intimate relationship between those who inhabit a space and the elements that make it intelligible.
The quality of an object lies simply in its precise placement within space, in its ability to evoke emotional disquiet
through compositions of intense light and carefully designed traces of shadow.
